Effect of a full pilates group exercise program on transversus abdominis thickness, daily function and pain in women with chronic low back pain

The Pilates method is often used in the treatment of nonspecific low back pain (NSCLBP). effect group exercising (mat and apparatus combined) on women with NSCLBP unknown. Studies use ultrasound (US) to measure transversus abdominis (TrA) thickness one anatomical location. We recruited 40 women, 22 18 healthy (active control group), join five weeks biweekly (apparatus mat). Measurements included TrA (left right) at rest, during active draw-in maneuver (ADIM), its TrA% change three areas; Roland-Morris disability questionnaire (RMDQ); level (VAS). Before study, no asymmetry was noted as well between-group differences TrA-thickness anatomic areas (in rest ADIM). Following intervention, increased two areas. No were between groups ADIM locations. found before intervention change. an increase TrA-% noticed group. A decrease observed area C. effects RMDQ VAS. Five percentage changed NSCLBP. Measuring US should be performed different locations both sides. This measuring procedure has good inter- intra-rater reliability potential reveal physiological effects.
